Aerial Views of Lerab Ling

This year it has been 20 years since the land was purchased on the beautiful Larzac Plateau in the Herault region of Southern France. Since opening in 1992, Lerab Ling has been blessed by visits from numerous great masters of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, most notably by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on two occasions, in 2000 and 2008.

The Lerab Ling temple, completed in 2006 and according to certain Tibetan masters, the largest and most authentic of its type in Europe was inaugurated in August 2008 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

thanks to Jan Pieters for braving the perfectly blue skies in a micro gyrocopter

We have waited a long time for this, and now Lerab Ling is ready to be seen in all its glory. Thanks Jan. Personally I too nervous to brave a microlite to get such a fabulous shot

Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing the photos. I hope to visit there some day, if not in this lifetime, perhaps the next??

So that was Jan in that thing! I saw it fly over... Stunning photos, especially with the Haut Languedoc mountains behind it, really shows how isolated the spot is!!! One forgets! And YES IT IS 20 YEARS AGO! We should be having a birthday party!!! PF

Thank you for the flattering comments and sorry about the noise. It seems though that the photos make up for it (luckily Rinpoche was already awake).

The gyrocopter feels like sitting on a lawn mower with birth defects, but is a very clever piece of engineering. A fabulous ride I highly recommend.

Jan, so happy to see these shots again online. For anyone who hasn't seen it: the large format print is even more stunning. Hopefully it hit the stores soon. For a very low resolution image of the temple, here's a quick sketch on my blog... http://bit.ly/nWoDI4
